Freudian reading
Freud might read dream-death as wish fulfillment in its most uncomfortable form—the unconscious expression of forbidden desires, whether to be free of obligation, to punish the self, or to symbolically eliminate a rival. The death often disguises what cannot be spoken.
Jungian reading
Jung viewed death in dreams as the ego's encounter with transformation itself—the necessary dissolution that precedes rebirth, the shadow's integration, or the death of an outdated persona. It signals the psyche's demand for renewal, however frightening the passage.
